This Coast Bias
INTERVIEW
1. What Does Your Artist Name Mean?
This Coast Bias:
"I come from a part of the country that doesn’t have a Coast, so everybody growing up always complains about an East or West Coast Bias, especially when it comes to sports I simply made a tongue in cheek joke saying my bias is toward THIS Coast, even tho we don’t have one (im from OKC.) Band/artist names are hard to make unique, so sometimes ya gotta go with things like that." 2. Who Are Your Biggest Music Influences?
This Coast Bias:
"I love Prince, Tame Impala, Anything written by Max Martin, Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel, ABBA, Chromeo, And KISS. I just love great hooks, synths, guitars, and musicians who are obsessed with their craft." 3. How Did You get into music?
This Coast Bias:
"I started with guitar, but the reason I even wanted to play was because my dad showed me KISS when I was about 8- he said “here’s my favorite band from when I was a kid.” It just sucked me into the stereo. I had to be apart of that energy. I quit guitar when I realized you had to work at it, but then started again after I saw School of Rock. That made me realize that music was an addiction of mine." 4. What’s The Craziest Thing That’s Happened within your music career so far?
This Coast Bias:
"I recently signed a record deal with another band I play with and got to play in the Phoenix Suns arena at an event last year. That was pretty wild." 5. How’s your album coming along?
This Coast Bias:
"I’m not sure when I’ll release an album with this project. I’m on the single train right now! But recording has been a blast!" 6. What’s Your Songwriting Process?
This Coast Bias:
"It varies, but usually I’ll just start noodling on my midi keyboard and once I find something I like, like a chord progression or lead line, I just go from there. I also will lift chord progressions from other great songs and change things around, or sometimes I just have a melody stuck in my head that I just have to write a song to. But it always ends with me laying down tracks in Ableton in my iMac and then going from there! I love mapping out songs digitally and then toying around." 7. Who Do You Sound Like?
This Coast Bias:
"I think I sound like a pop artist that records in his bedroom I have a hard time with the comparison thing, but I’d hope to be loved by the same people that dig Tame Impala, The Weeknd, Or Chromeo." 8. What are your goals?
This Coast Bias:
"I’d love to get my music to as many ears as possible. I’d love to tour with this project at some point, and release an album eventually on a label." 9. Do you come from the streets; if not; how do you relate?
This Coast Bias:
"I don’t- I’m from the country, but there are some parallels I’d think. I was raised to be tough. I wasn’t raised to admit defeat. I was taught social smarts at an early age and not to take crap from people, but at the same time I value a great community." 10. What do you think of The Chain Smokers or David Guetta?
This Coast Bias:
"Not a fan but there’s a reason they’re popular!"
